practical lesson #1

we had out first practical lesson on filing yesterday!

and look! my home work for the week!

in the pack, there's this pack of 50 clear nail tips. i got down to sorting out the tips to different sizes of nails to form 5 sets of full nails.

these are the nail shapes that i'll have to do:

pointed, oval, square, square round & round

i only have one sample each. and i need to file 45 more before class next week! argh!

ps: i finally have the answer to why polishes don't last when we do it at home. in addition to not removing the true cuticle on the nail plate, our nails are naturally oily. and in order to make polishes lasing, we'll need to remove the true cuticles AND clean the nail plate with acetone to remove oil of any kind. (:

finally an answer to my doubts!

lesson one

lesson one started last friday with what i thought would be boring theory lessons. but the principal rachel made the class interesting and tiring with all the copying. i agree that copying is equivalent to force studying. but as long as it works, it's a good method. (:

we learnt about the different part of the nails and the technical terms. and i finally have a slight inkling to why express manicures don't last long or maybe i am mistaken. according to the notes, there're 2 parts to a cuticle: the true cuticle (真外皮) and the eponychium (外皮). we can only see the latter with our naked eyes while the former is lying on the underside of the nail and has to be made visible with cuticle lotions and pushing back of the eponychium with the metal pusher. so effectively, if the true cuticles are not manicured away, the polish is actually "sitting on" the cuticles which are dead skins. ok am i making sense? i shall ask the instructor on wednesday when i attend my 2nd theory class. (:

took some photos of the package that i brought home but my phone has decided to go crazy and i cannot locate the photos in the gallery. ): photos will be up later!
